As there is a massive range of printers available there are some great cheap printers you can buy. If you're going to be looking at the initial price than there are some great and extremely cheap ink jet printers. What you have to take into account though is that the initial price of the printer is just the beginning of the overall costs for your printers.

Most of the printers now days are cheap as the companies that are making them aren't making that much money on the printers but on the consumables like ink jet cartridges and toners printers consume while printing. If you're smart you'll think hard about how you're going to be using your printer and based on that you might realize that the cheapest printer might not be that cheap after all.

If we start our calculations than it's safe to say that laser printers offer the lowest price per page as that's the way you should also think. If you print a lot of text documents than laser printers are your most economical and smartest move. Laser printers are more expensive than ink jet printers and that's where most make the mistake of buying an ink jet printer over the laser printer.

Ink jet printers use expensive cartridges and if you print graphics you'll soon realize you run out of them quickly. On the other hand if you print a lot of text documents the black ink will run out and you have to replace it on regular bases. With laser printers as they use a different approach when printing the text is not only sharper but your toners can last a long while as well.

The biggest drawback of laser printers were that they were only in black and white but recently color laser printers have dropped in prices and are now affordable and should be looked at even though as they're a bigger firsthand investment you might save a lot of money down the road.

All in all most cheap printers are quality now days but it's the ongoing costs you should be thinking about as they'll most probably save you a lot of money in the long run.
